*taps mic* hello?

I have not written in this blog for three years!

I am sorry, but real life got in the way. I got busy at work and other things. Then in 2009, I decided to quit my job and return to school to get my bachelor's degree in linguistics.

Here I am, just three months left until I graduate. I have applied to graduate school, and hopefully I will get accepted.

So, yeah, these past two years have been really eventful for me. But I am still doing stuff about Philippine languages. My honors thesis, will be about Tagalog historical morphology. It's been fascinating researching this stuff and going over it with my advisor.

One of these days, I shall write about the whole Jejemon controversy. In fact, I am taking a discourse analysis course right now and it has given me a new perspective on it with regards to the great negative media coverage it has been receiving since last year.

I wish I could resurrect this blog. Maybe one day I will. And I think one day I may move it to another blogging service. I'll keep y'all posted.

Hi Chris!

Yes, you should definitely resurrect this blog. I will look forward to it.

Being an Ibanag/Cebuano/Tagalog and know some Ilocano, I am fascinated by Philippine languages.

Thanks for your words of encouragement.

I am part Ibanag too. My great-great-grandfather was from Tuguegarao and I still have relatives there.

Do you speak Ibanag?

TECRIS said...

Yes, I do. My father, the late Estanislao Reyes, is pure Ibanag. Mother is from Cagayan de Oro. All 7 of their children talk in Cebuano when we were in Tuguegarao. So now, we speak both languages fluently.

Ah, interesting. If I need to confer with an Ibanag speaker, I'll look you up.

My great-great-grandfather Canuto Fermin was born in Tuguegarao in 1880. He died in Makati in 1942.

His niece died in her 90s last year or the year before. Her name was Basilisa (Sisang) Gutierrez.

I meant to say that Tiya Sisang was a resident of Tuguegarao.

Welcome back Chris! As an avid fan of languages and especially the Filipino languages, it is nice to have one of our own out there trying to educate us all who are either Filipino or Filipino descent.

I think you should resurrect your blog. You have come all this so you might as well continue it. I understand that sometimes you feel like lazybones and tend to forget writing but hey, there could also be times that it is through blogging that you could express yourself more. So keep it up Chris. Share your thoughts.

Trust me, I know what it means to be busy and going back to school! I'm currently earning a Bachelor's as well, best wishes to you. As far as the Jejemon situation goes, Dolphy definitely ruffled some feathers on this one. Truthfully, no matter what you do, someone's not going to like it.
